The Right Honourable
The Secretary of State for the Colonies,
Colonial Office, S.T.
:
sir.
An enquiry has reached us from the Colonial
Secretary's Office, Hong Kong, as to whether we would be
willing to purchase a certain property in Hong Kong, formerly
belonging to the Rhenish Mission. My Committee would
probably be very glad to obtain this property. We under-
stand from our secretary, Archdeacon Barnett, who is now
in this country, that he imagines that the Government has
decided that all German property in the Colony is to be Bold
and their affairs liquidated.
While we shall be very glad to acquire this property
if Germans are not to be allowed to live in Hong Kong any
more yet we should be unwilling to do so if there is any
possibility of the Rhenish Hission returning in the near
future. We have always worked on friendly terms with them
and no one Kiesionury Society would like to do anything
